On January 31, 2020, State Councilor and Foreign Minister Wang Yi had a telephone conversation with Indian Foreign Minister Su Jiesheng.
Su Jiesheng said that India supports the Chinese government and people in their efforts to fight the new coronavirus epidemic, and appreciates China's openness and transparency in responding to the epidemic, and is full of confidence in China's victory over the epidemic.
Wang Yi thanked the Indian side for their support and said that the Chinese government and people are going all out to fight the new coronavirus epidemic. We have adopted the most comprehensive and strictest prevention and control measures, and many measures go far beyond the requirements of “the International Health Regulations”. China's efforts are not only protecting the health of its own people, but also safeguarding the health of the world's people. Governments and the World Health Organization have given full recognition to this. The World Health Organization also said yesterday that it did not approve of travel or trade restrictions on China when it judged the outbreak of the new coronavirus. We believe that all countries in the world, including India, will respect this important recommendation, and China is willing to further strengthen public health cooperation with the international community.
Wang Yi said that in the era of globalization, to solve transnational public health challenges, we should adhere to objective rationality, strengthen communication and coordination, and each play a constructive role. We do not agree with the approach adopted by individual countries to create tension or even create panic.
Su Jiesheng said that the Indian side advocates an objective and rational assessment of the epidemic and does not support measures that may complicate the problem. The Chinese people have a strong will. The more they face difficulties, the more they will unite. I believe that China will eventually win a comprehensive victory against the new coronavirus epidemic.
