element of lightning arrester, The electrical performance of the resistor
determines the electrical performance of the arrester. The resistor disc is
composed of a certain number of resistance platesthrough series or parallel
connections. The lightning arrester is protected through the excellent nonlinear
volt ampere characteristics of the resistor disc. Actually, the lightning
arrester is a high-pass discharger with low resistance, parallel connection at
both ends of the line insulator. Atnormal operation voltage, it is in the high
resistance mode to insulate the circuit from the ground. In case that the
lightning with high voltage has been transferred to the substation along the
circuit, the lightning arrester has a low resistance state, stemming the flow
of the lightning on the earth, so as to protect the equipment or line insulator.
