Silicon carbide has four main applications: functional ceramics, refractory materials, abrasives and metallurgical raw materials. As abrasive, it can be used for grinding tools, such as grinding wheel, oil stone, grinding head, sand tile and so on.

High purity single crystals can be used to make semiconductors and manufacture silicon carbide fibers.
