CAN (Controller Area Network), the controller area network, is one of the most widely used fieldbuses in the world. It is a bus arbitration communication protocol that uses a two-wire communication wiring mode that allows multiple master nodes. Its bus communication distance can reach 10K meters. The rate is up to 1Mbts/s. Based on the physical layer structure of CAN, different application scope protocols have been developed for different application layers. In the automotive industry, SAE J1939 and others are commonly used.
LIN (Local Interconnect Network) is another single-line communication network protocol that effectively supports the control of distributed electronic nodes in automotive applications. It is a multi-point bus with multiple masters and multiple slaves. It can hang up to 16 nodes. The communication distance is up to 40m and the speed is up to 20kbit/s. CAN and LIN have different technical characteristics and can be used in different situations.
The CAN bus is characterized by high reliability and high speed. CAN is used to better communicate with other complex subsystems. Such as engine control systems, ABS, electronic shift control systems and more. In the body control, LIN has been able to meet the requirements of use, the LIN bus is simple and convenient, which not only reduces the complexity of the wiring, but also reduces the cost. The method of mixing CAN & LIN in complex and luxurious integrated systems , to achieve the best performance price ratio.
